I just added a new book to my author site! This one is called Incandescent: A Winter Tale of Blackthorne Faire, and it’s the next in my series of winter tales—short, sort of holiday-adjacent books meant to be read in just a sitting or two, ideally under a blanket by the fire, with a mug of something warm. This book will be available wherever fine books are sold in early November. Like all my books, this one will be traditionally published by The Story Plant.

While this is a stand-alone story, it’s set at the Renaissance festival introduced in my novel Blackthorne Faire, coming in March. So this is the story that connects my short winter tales with my longer epic novels.

I’m not really sure where to put this one genre-wise. I guess it’s somewhere between magic realism and cozy fantasy. In any case, it’s the hardest book I’ve ever tried to write. Like the rest of the winter tales, and all my stuff so far, it will be beautifully illustrated.

I’ll be talking a lot about both books in the coming weeks. I can’t wait to share them with you.

He was knighted by the late King Richard Booth of the nation/village of Hay-on-Wye (the famous book town on the border between England and Wales) and was ordained a minister on the Internet (he recently performed his first wedding). So he is properly the Right Reverend Sir John. He is very happily married to the fabulous Carol Bales (Lady Bales of Hay). The couple makes their home in Atlanta. John has published three novels, Raven Wakes the World: A Winter Tale, Christmas Past: A Ghostly Winter Tale, and The Star in the East: A Winter Tale of Ancient Mystery. Two more, Make Up Test: A Rom-Com Winter Tale and Blackthorne Faire are coming soon, and many more are forthcoming.
